Girls 6A Regional Qualifiers: The Road to Austin
Editor’s Note: This is the third in a series covering the 5A and 6A Regional Meets. Region 1 — Lubbock, Region 2 — Arlington, Region 3 — Webster, Region 4 — San Antonio.
The Girls 6A regional fields are set. Sixty-four athletes per event — sixteen per region — have survived District and Area and now stand at the final checkpoint before the UIL 6A State Meet at Myers Stadium in Austin on May 15. This coming weekend, May 1–2, four regional meets will determine which nine girls in each event punch their ticket.
The format is the same as in the boys’ divisions: top two from each regional advance automatically, and a ninth berth goes to the fastest third-place finisher from across all four regions — the statewide wild card. That final spot rewards athletes willing to race aggressively even after the podium slips away.
The Girls 6A distance fields this spring carry a few names that are worth knowing before the gun fires. One of them has been on TDP’s radar all season. Several others are carrying personal bests that have not surfaced in postseason racing yet. And at least one program — Bridgeland — is sending a family story to Arlington that connects directly to the boys’ side of this same meet.
The data here shows each qualifier’s Area mark (official result from the Area meet two weeks ago), their Season Best, and their Personal Best. Wide gaps between Area and season best reflect athletes who had enough to advance and did not give away anything extra.

Region 1 opens with one of the tighter 800m races of the weekend at the front. Jordyn Brown of Mansfield (2:10.65), Ariel Simpson of Euless Trinity (2:11.58), Grace McIlvain of Carroll (2:12.20), and Zoe Banis of Northwest (2:12.82) are all separated by two seconds — and all four ran those marks as their season bests, meaning there are no hidden gaps here. These athletes were genuine at Area, and they will need to be again. The two state bids in this regional are going to be earned the hard way.
Grace McIlvain also qualifies in the 1600m. Carroll is the program story in Region 1 outside the 800m: they place three athletes in the 3200m (Luna Gutierrez, Abigail Perez, and Megan Bergman), making them one of the most represented single programs in the Girls 6A distance events. Arlington Martin likewise doubles up with Natalia Guerra and Lily Davis qualifying in both the 800m and the 3200m.
Taylor Peck of Prosper also qualifies in the 3200m, carrying an identical Area and season best in the 800m — another runner who gave nothing away at Area.

Darasimi Odelowo of The Woodlands leads Region 2 and sits atop the entire Girls 6A 800m qualifying field at 2:08.79 — a mark she ran at Area, which means it was not a conservation effort. She ran genuinely, and she is the favorite to win this regional and challenge for a state title in Austin. The Woodlands places three athletes in this event (Odelowo, Vanessa Vezga, and Lauren Alpha), making them one of the most represented programs in the girls’ half-mile field.
The second automatic qualifier spot is genuinely contested. Kenedy Card of Rockwall (2:13.58), Daniela Baeza of Longview (2:13.70), Kaitlyn Barnes of Houston Cypress Springs (2:14.49), and Vanessa Vezga of The Woodlands (2:14.19 PB, 2:19.32 Area) are all capable of running 2:14–2:15 when the race pulls them. Vezga’s five-second gap between her Area mark and personal best is the largest in the region, suggesting she was very much in conservation mode two weeks ago.
Reese Bartos of Waxahachie qualifies in all three distance events out of Region 2 — she also appears in the 1600m and 3200m fields — and Madison Akers of Wylie East doubles in the 1600m.

McKale Lee of Alief Taylor ran 2:08.50 — the fastest 800m mark in the Girls 6A qualifying field, a single hundredth faster than Odelowo in Region 2. She also qualifies in the 1600m. Like Odelowo, Lee ran her Area mark as her season best, meaning she raced genuinely to advance rather than coasting. That makes her the likely regional champion and the clear state title favorite.
Shadow Creek places two qualifiers in the 800m: Elizabeth Brooks (2:09.68 PB, 2:13.81 Area — a 4-second gap that suggests more room to run) and Samantha Cravin (2:13.63 SB, also qualifies in the 1600m). Casey Scherpereel of Katy Taylor (2:12.06 PB) is the third candidate capable of pushing for a wild-card third-place time. Kaiyah Brown of Humble Summer Creek ran 2:18.87 at Area against a 2:13.86 season best — a five-second gap that makes her one of the more quietly capable athletes in the field.
Houston Lamar places two athletes (Iannucci and Perez), and Humble Summer Creek likewise doubles up with Brown and Michelle Roland.

Round Rock as a city owns Region 4 in the 800m. Sophia Lopez of Round Rock Stony Point (2:13.63), Ivy Parada of Round Rock (2:15.57), and Lola Cope of Round Rock (2:17.93) give the Round Rock programs three of the top four spots — and Lopez also qualifies in the 1600m and 3200m, making her the Girls 6A triple qualifier to watch on the south side of the draw. All three ran their Area marks as their season bests, so what you see in the data is what they’ve shown.
A small data curiosity worth noting: Northside Brandeis enters two athletes — Danelly Carrion and Delilah Huntley — with identical season bests of 2:18.60, despite Carrion’s 2:20.48 Area mark running two seconds faster than Huntley’s 2:22.70. Comal Canyon also doubles with Mollie Allen and Allison Schoch. Several athletes in the back half of the field ran their Area marks significantly slower than their season bests — Ellyson Spurlock (2:21.75 Area, 2:19.18 SB) and Camia Patterson (2:21.81 Area, 2:19.64 SB) being the most notable — but the gap to the front of this field is too large for a wild-card push to be realistic from Region 4.

Macy Wingard of Denton Braswell leads Region 1 — and leads the entire Girls 6A mile qualifying field — with a 4:42.80 personal best and a 4:47.05 season best. She ran 4:51.71 at Area, a nine-second gap from her SB that follows the familiar championship-round pattern: she had enough, she took it, and she saved the race for this weekend. Wingard also qualifies in the 3200m, where she is similarly positioned as the state’s top qualifier. TDP readers already know her name. If she runs anywhere close to her season bests across both events, she leaves Webster as a state champion in at least one of them.
Adeline Bennett of Flower Mound (4:47.75 PB, 4:54.84 SB) is the second-fastest qualifier in the region and a legitimate state medal contender. Maya Easterwood of Coppell (4:48.95 PB, 4:54.01 SB) ran 5:04.85 at Area — a ten-second gap from her season best — and is the most under-the-radar threat in this field. Her 4:54 fitness is real, but she ran none of it at Area.
El Paso Eastwood and El Paso Franklin each place two athletes in this event. Carroll qualifies both Grace McIlvain and Luna Gutierrez in the mile, with McIlvain also running the 800m.

The Region 2 mile has a program story unlike any other in the Girls 6A qualifying field: Bridgeland places three athletes in this race — Rowan Saacke, Hope Smith, and Susana Rawls. Saacke is the lead name here: a 4:44.32 personal best against a 4:52.29 season best against a 4:58.68 Area mark. She ran nearly seven seconds slower than her season best to advance, and she also qualifies in the 3200m where a similar pattern appears. Saacke is a legitimate state title contender, and TDP readers who followed the Boys 6A preview will recognize the last name — her brother Griffen Saacke is among the men’s regional qualifiers at this same meet.
Evangeline Williams of Wylie East is the other dominant name in this field. Her personal best of 4:43.67 makes her the second-fastest qualifier by PB in the entire state behind only Wingard — but her season best is 5:01.23, and she ran 5:01.48 at Area. That is a 17-second gap between her PB and SB, a discrepancy that raises a question the race itself will answer: how much of the 4:43 version of Williams is available this weekend? If the answer is “most of it,” this regional suddenly involves two athletes who can both break 4:45.
Reese Bartos of Waxahachie is the region’s triple qualifier, appearing in all three distance events with notable Area-to-SB gaps in each. Sophia Domosiaris of Conroe Grand Oaks ran 5:22.03 at Area against a 5:10.74 season best — another runner with more available than her advancement time shows. The Woodlands places three athletes in the mile (Weller, Linde, and Makayla Day), giving them the same multi-qualifier presence they show in the 800m.

The two most interesting athletes in Region 3 are the two who ran their Area marks furthest from their best capabilities. Sophie Peterson of Houston Memorial owns a 4:52.24 personal best and a 5:08.18 season best — she ran 5:18.35 at Area, a full 26 seconds slower than her season best. She qualified and moved on. What she brings to Webster this weekend is the fastest personal best in the field by six seconds. Sophia Hamdani of Houston Bellaire (4:58.49 PB, 5:12.67 SB) ran 5:22.90 at Area — a 24-second gap from her season best and an extraordinary 24 seconds of reserve from someone who has run sub-4:59.
Between Peterson and Hamdani, Region 3 has two athletes carrying sub-5:00 personal bests who ran their Area marks in the 5:18–5:22 range. When you add Kate Rogers of Katy Cinco Ranch (4:99.64 SB, 5:06.17 Area), this regional has three runners with personal bests under 5:00 in the same field. Whether Peterson and Hamdani are fit enough to access those marks this season remains unknown — their season bests of 5:08 and 5:12 are not sub-5:00 — but at minimum they are running in the 5:08–5:12 range, which is competitive for a state bid.
Humble Kingwood places two athletes in this mile field (Narhi and Lemoine), and Shadow Creek doubles with Cravin and Mercado. McKale Lee of Alief Taylor brings her 800m fitness into the mile as well.

Kallie Van Prooyen of San Antonio Churchill (4:99.88) and Sophia Lopez of Round Rock Stony Point (5:00.92) lead Region 4, separated by barely a second in their season bests. Both are state qualifier caliber. Van Prooyen also qualifies in the 3200m — where she leads that regional as well — and Lopez completes her triple-qualifier weekend across all three events. Churchill places a second runner, Mia Kellogg (5:02.72), in this mile field, giving the San Antonio program two of the top four spots.
Caroline Strong of Austin Westlake (5:02.83) and Kailyn Brunson of Northside Brennan (5:01.90 PB) are the athletes most likely to push for a wild-card third. Brunson ran 5:08.21 at Area against a 5:01.90 personal best — a six-second gap that suggests she was not in full race mode at Area. Comal Canyon doubles with Madi Molinar and Scarlett Dusek, while Peyton Jarzombek of Cibolo Steele ran 5:27.53 at Area against a 5:14.91 season best — nearly 13 seconds of gap and among the largest in the region.

Macy Wingard of Denton Braswell is the dominant story in the Girls 6A 3200m qualifying field, and it is not a narrow margin. Her personal best is 10:08.04. Her season best is 10:16.61. She ran 10:51.83 at Area — a 35-second gap from her season best. If Wingard runs to her current fitness level in Webster, she is running somewhere between 10:15 and 10:20 in the two-mile and daring the rest of the field to stay with her. No other qualifier in any region comes close to that on paper.
The regional story underneath Wingard is genuinely interesting. Maya Easterwood of Coppell (10:23.96 PB, 10:30.91 SB) is the second-fastest qualifier in the region and a real state qualifier candidate. Emily Orr of El Paso Franklin (10:37.90 PB) is the third. Carroll places three athletes in this event — Luna Gutierrez, Abigail Perez, and Megan Bergman — making them the most represented single program in the Region 1 women’s two-mile field. El Paso Eastwood likewise qualifies three athletes (Vega, Caraveo, and Gomez), giving the west Texas programs significant numerical presence even if the individual marks don’t project to state.
Taylor Dowers of Lewisville Hebron doubles in the mile and two-mile. Elena Sather of Northwest Nelson carries a 11:04.61 personal best against an 11:18.60 Area mark — 14 seconds of gap — and also qualifies in the mile.

Rowan Saacke of Bridgeland holds a 10:05.90 personal best in the 3200m — a mark that, like her brother Griffen’s 8:58.26 on the boys’ side, represents a level of distance running talent that doesn’t show up in the Area data. She ran 10:46.64 at Area, a 41-second gap from her season best and a mark that sits alongside some of the largest conservation margins in this entire dataset. Saacke ran her Area mark as her season best, which technically means she has not eclipsed the 10:06 this spring — but a 10:06 personal best doesn’t vanish. It comes back when the race matters.
Evangeline Williams of Wylie East (10:26.58 PB, 10:47.06 SB) is the second-ranked qualifier in the region and, like Saacke, is carrying fitness that the season-best number doesn’t fully represent. Hope Smith of Bridgeland (10:35.10 SB) gives that program two of the top three spots in the regional — and Bridgeland’s three-woman mile squad (Saacke, Smith, and Susana Rawls) makes them one of the deepest single programs in any Girls 6A distance event this spring.
Laney Barnes of Cypress Woods (10:41.75) is the bubble candidate most likely to claim a wild-card third if the Bridgeland 1-2 pulls the regional pace to something honest. Jenna Moore and Reese Bartos of Waxahachie both qualify in the two-mile as part of their own multi-event weekends, with Bartos appearing in all three distance events.

| 16 | Elise Soika | Houston Lamar | 12:09.03 | 12:09.03 | 12:09.03 |
Region 3 has two distinct layers. The top of the field — Clara Dye, Kate Rogers, Caroline Reina, Vienna Fish — is competitive for state, with season bests clustering between 10:52 and 11:01. Below that, the field drops off considerably, making the third-place wild-card time from this regional unlikely to threaten what comes out of Regions 1 or 2.
Clara Dye of Humble Kingwood leads the field with a 10:50.54 personal best — the fastest PB in the region — but her season best of 11:21.98 is a 31-second gap from that mark, and her Area time of 11:31.25 was another 10 seconds slower. Dye has not run close to her best this spring, which makes her either the most unpredictable runner in the field or a runner whose 2026 form is simply not at her career peak. Kate Rogers of Katy Cinco Ranch (10:52.77 SB) and Caroline Reina of Katy Seven Lakes (10:58.85 SB) both ran their Area marks slower than their season bests — Rogers at 11:40.71, Reina at 11:37.58 — and both are likely closer to their SBs than their Area times suggest.
The Katy ISD complex is strongly represented: Katy Cinco Ranch, Katy Seven Lakes, Katy, and Katy Tompkins each place a runner in this event, combining for four of the top five spots by season best. Humble Kingwood sends three qualifiers (Dye, Narhi, and Kayla Parrish). And Manvel enters sisters Jannie Cardenas (11:26.03) and Jessica Cardenas (11:32.27) in the same field — Jessica also qualifies in the 1600m.
Sophia Hamdani of Houston Bellaire doubles from the mile, and Anisa Mercado of Shadow Creek also doubles across the middle distance and two-mile.

Region 4 is the most compressed 3200m field in the state at the top, with five athletes separated by only 12 seconds in their season bests. Kallie Van Prooyen of San Antonio Churchill (10:59.85, which is also her Area mark and personal best — a genuine full effort) leads the region and is the only sub-11:00 qualifier in the field. Sophia Lopez of Round Rock Stony Point (11:04.27) is right behind her, completing her triple-qualifier weekend across all three events. Caroline Strong of Austin Westlake (11:08.45), Mia Kellogg of San Antonio Churchill (11:09.73), and Kira Albino of San Antonio Johnson (11:10.22) are the next three — all within 11 seconds of Van Prooyen, all capable of pushing the automatic qualifying spots.
Churchill placing two runners (Van Prooyen and Kellogg) in the top four of the same regional creates tactical options for that program. Comal Canyon also doubles with Madi Molinar and Scarlett Dusek, and Peyton Jarzombek of Cibolo Steele ran 11:41.74 at Area against an 11:29.39 season best. Lopez and Van Prooyen are both clear favorites for auto-qualifier spots; the question in Region 4 is whether Strong, Kellogg, or Albino can run a time competitive with the third-place finisher from Regions 1 and 2 — which, given Wingard’s presence in Region 1 and Saacke’s in Region 2, will be fast.
Watching for the Wild Card
The wild-card third is where the Girls 6A distance races get most interesting, because the gap between regions at the top is large. In the 800m, Region 3 has the fastest qualifier in McKale Lee, and Odelowo in Region 2 is right there — the wild-card third could very plausibly come from either region, depending on how fierce the race is at the front. In the 1600m, Wingard’s presence in Region 1 and the Peterson/Hamdani firepower in Region 3 both suggest those regionals could produce fast third-place times, especially if the race is run honestly. In the 3200m, the Wingard vs. Saacke narrative is the state’s best preview of what will happen in Austin: two women with sub-10:10 personal bests in separate regionals, both likely advancing, and both likely meeting for the first time at state.
The state meet is May 15 in Austin. TDP will have previews and coverage as championship weekend unfolds.
